Program Based Housing

For many, having a place to live is just the first step—staying housed takes the right support.

At JPWC, we know that everyone’s needs are different—some people need short-term help to regain stability, while others benefit from longer-term support.

That’s why we build our programs with the people we serve, ensuring they have the right resources to succeed. Our program-based housing provides more than a home—it offers personalized support, connection, and services that help people stay housed and move forward on their own terms.

Bridge Healing

Right now, Bridge Healing is a pilot program, but the results are clear—when people have access to short-term housing after leaving the hospital, they are far less likely to return to emergency services.

This program provides immediate, stable housing for people leaving Edmonton’s five emergency departments who would otherwise have nowhere to go. With a safe place to recover and support in securing permanent housing, Bridge Healing breaks the cycle between hospitals and homelessness.

Early evaluations show a statistically significant reduction in emergency service use for those who transition through Bridge Healing into appropriate housing. The data backs what we already know—when people have a safe place to land, they can move forward with stability and dignity.

Referrals for Bridge Healing are only available through Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Recovery in Transition

For many people leaving detox programs, the wait for a residential treatment bed can take weeks or even months. Without a safe, sober place to stay, maintaining recovery can be difficult. Recovery in Transition provides a solution.

This program offers short-term, supportive housing for people who have completed detox and are waiting for a treatment placement. With stable housing, meals, and a structured environment, residents can focus on their health and next steps while preparing for long-term treatment.

Referral pathways for Recovery in Transition are currently being developed and will be made publicly available in the near future.

Housing First

Housing First is designed for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness who are ready to live independently without on-site support services.

This program connects people with housing outreach and support workers who help them find and maintain permanent housing.

While Housing First works for many, it is not the right fit for everyone. Some individuals may require additional on-site support, which is available through other housing programs.

Intakes for Housing First take place every Thursday from 9 AM – 11 AM at The Mustard Seed West

10105 153 Street NW, Edmonton
